Plan International Vietnam is a recognised leader in disaster risk management and we ensure communities become more resilient to disasters and the effects of climate change.
Our work focuses on building the resilience of children and their communities. We work closely with children and youth to keep them involved in planning and identifying priorities when it comes to disaster responses.
We are forming strong partnerships with communities to develop drought-resistant rice crops and alternative forms of livelihoods to cope with the changing environment.
Our Safe Schools work is the first of its kind in the country, emphasising preparedness and planning, and introducing child-appropriate activities that are fun and educational. Some 900 teachers from primary and secondary schools in the provinces of Nam Dinh, Thanh Hoa and Nghe An have gained access to climate change education using our booklet and training manual for teachers. They are learning how to deliver messages and sessions on climate change education to children with skills, knowledge and practical materials, movies and games.
We work closely with the Ministry of Education to ensure national guidelines are in place and become a standard for the country’s school system. Following the rainy season, we also led the humanitarian response to severe flooding in Quang Binh Province.
